A regional promotion event between the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Fujian province was held on Aug 5 in Fuzhou, Fujian, bringing together government officials and representatives from universities, business associations, and nearly 200 companies.
The event, co-hosted by the Secretariat for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial Government, and the Fujian Provincial Development and Reform Commission, highlighted opportunities for industrial cooperation, technological innovation, tourism, and foreign trade. It also showcased Macao's efforts to develop itself as a commercial and trade cooperation service platform.
Li Lin, director-general of the Fujian Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, said that Fujian and Macao shared a solid foundation for exchanges and called for closer cooperation to help businesses expand into international markets.
Xie Yongqiang, chairman of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, outlined Macao's business environment and investment policies, including government guidance funds and the Scheme for Supporting the Development of Macao First-Store Economy. He encouraged Fujian companies to invest in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and use Macao as a platform to enter overseas markets.
Summing up the visit, Ng Wai Han, secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, said the two sides had signed cooperation agreements covering trade, tourism, health care, culture, and education, as well as youth exchanges. She added that efforts will be intensified to support overseas expansion, with a focus on helping Fujian companies enter Portuguese-speaking and Spanish-speaking markets.
