From September 7 to 8, Zhou Zuyi, Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial People’s Congress, met separately in Xiamen with foreign guests attending the 26th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), including Alexander Poulev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investment and Industry of Bulgaria, and Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia. He also held discussions and exchanges with business representatives, including Mohammed Y. Al Qahtani, President of Downstream at Saudi Aramco, and Bruce Flatt, Chairman of Brookfield Asset Management, to jointly promote cooperation and pursue shared development.
On behalf of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and the People’s Government of Fujian Province, Zhou extended a warm welcome to the guests and wished them a fruitful visit. After briefly introducing Fujian’s basic provincial profile, Zhou noted that President Xi Jinping has always attached great importance to and closely followed the development of the CIFIT. In his congratulatory letter to the 2025 CIFIT, President Xi set forth its permanent theme of “Further Expanding Bilateral Investment, Jointly Facilitating Global Development,” providing fundamental guidance for further improving the hosting of the CIFIT and expanding opening up. As China’s only national-level exhibition dedicated to investment, the CIFIT has become a major platform for investment in China, China’s outbound investment and international investment alike, serving as a bridge that connects China with the world and enables the world to share the development opportunities of Chinese modernization.
As an important frontier of China’s reform and opening up, Fujian shares deep historical bonds and a long tradition of friendly exchanges with countries including Bulgaria and Cambodia, and its exchanges and cooperation with them have grown increasingly close in recent years. Currently, Fujian is thoroughly implementing the guiding principles of President Xi Jinping’s important speeches, instructions and directives on the work in Fujian, and following the grand blueprint of building a new Fujian featuring dynamic mechanisms, upgraded industries, a prosperous people and a beautiful environment. The province is expanding high-standard opening up and promoting high-quality development in all respects, opening up broad prospects for cooperation with countries around the world. Zhou expressed the hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to fully implement the important consensus reached between President Xi and the heads of state of the respective countries, further expand economic, trade and investment cooperation, deepen sister-city ties, and broaden people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to enhance friendship and jointly pursue multi-win development.
Zhou noted that this year is the first year of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, during which Fujian is thoroughly implementing the Plan. The province is focusing on promoting the deep integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation, consolidating and upgrading its pillar industries such as electronic information, modern chemical industry, advanced equipment manufacturing, and modern textile, footwear and apparel, advancing the development of the “555X” industrial clusters, and accelerating the building of a modern industrial system with Fujian’s characteristics, so as to pool strengths to take the lead in advancing Chinese modernization. We welcome enterprises from all sectors to actively participate in the development of a new Fujian. We hope that you will, as always, follow and support Fujian’s development, build on the sound foundation already in place, expand all-round cooperation into broader areas and at deeper levels, and achieve more tangible results.
Alexander Poulev and Sun Chanthol extended congratulations on the successful holding of this year’s CIFIT. They said they would dedicate themselves to promoting two-way investment and strengthening exchanges and cooperation with Fujian in such fields as economy and trade, education, tourism and culture, and, through the CIFIT platform, attract more Fujian enterprises to invest and establish businesses in Bulgaria and Cambodia, so as to advance together and achieve common development.
Mohammed Y. Al Qahtani, Bruce Flatt and other business representatives noted that Fujian has a solid industrial foundation and a high-quality business environment, and expressed strong confidence in its development prospects. They pledged to further scale up and step up their investment in Fujian, while helping Fujian enterprises go global and explore new markets, so as to achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.
