Fujian and Macao signed a series of cooperation agreements on tourism, overseas expansion of Fujian enterprises, youth development, cultural exchanges, healthcare, and talent training at their fifth high-level cooperation meeting on Aug 4 in Fuzhou, Fujian province.

Zhou Zuyi, secretary of the Communist Party of China Fujian Provincial Committee, and Sam Hou-fai, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), witnessed the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the two regions, along with other agreements and memorandums in related fields.

Zhou said Fujian and Macao share close historical and cultural ties and have seen growing economic exchanges and personnel links in recent years. He called for the two sides to broaden cooperation, promote innovation, strengthen economic and investment ties, and deepen cultural exchanges.

In his remarks, Sam said Fujian and Macao have held four cooperation meetings since the establishment of the Fujian-Macao cooperation meeting mechanism in 2016. The fifth meeting marks the start of a new decade for the mechanism, he added.

He also called for closer collaboration by using Fujian's Maritime Silk Road links, Macao's platform for cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries, and opportunities from the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin to deepen Fujian-Macao ties.
