The Conference on Zhu Xi's Philosophy and Dialogue of Global Civilization, also known as the Fourth Kaoting Forum, was held in Nanping, Fujian province, on Oct 18.

The event was co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the International Confucian Association, and the People's Government of Fujian Province.

This year's conference marked the 895th anniversary of Zhu Xi's birth, emphasizing the enduring relevance of his philosophical contributions. Nearly 200 scholars from 51 countries and regions attended.

Discussions focused on Zhu Xi's ideas of moral cultivation, ethical leadership, and people-oriented governance, highlighting their significance in fostering global coexistence and harmony amidst contemporary challenges.

Sun Chunlan, former vice-premier and now president of the International Confucian Association, said that Zhu Xi's philosophy offers valuable insights into human society and global civilization. Sun called on scholars to further explore the contemporary value of traditional cultures like Zhu Xi's to foster a harmonious world of diverse civilizations.

The conference also featured speeches from international dignitaries, including Vincent Meriton, former vice-president of the Seychelles, and Simona-Mirela Miculescu, president of the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference.

Experts from institutions such as Renmin University of China and Sanming University presented keynote reports, contributing to a rich exchange of ideas.

This conference underscored the enduring global relevance of Zhu Xi's thought and its potential to inspire contemporary dialogue among civilizations.
